Mayank Agarwal was one of the nine Punjab Kings players released ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction. Punjab retained him for 12 crores ahead of IPL 2022 and named him as the captain of the side. However, he endured a forgetful campaign after which the management decided to part ways with him.

In 12 innings, the right-handed batsman scored just 196 runs at an average of 16.33 with just 1 fifty in one game in IPL 2022.  Following this decision The Kings’ management named Shikhar Dhawan as the captain of the franchise for IPL 2023. Mayank scored 1513 runs in 60 games for the franchise overall between 2020-2022 including nine fifties and a century.

Punjab Kings will head into the IPL 2023 auction with a remaining purse of INR 32. 20 crores with three overseas slots remaining. They are looking to buy two out of Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green all of whom will be taking part in the upcoming auction.
