IND vs ENG: “If You Pick The Top 15 Cricket Stars In The World, 10 Will Be Indians, The Trophy Cabinet Is Empty At The End Of The Day”

Team India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 campaign came to an end on Thursday, November 10, with a crushing 10-wicket defeat to England in the semi-finals at the Adelaide Oval. The Rohit Sharma-led team played their first ICC play-off match after losing their semi-final against New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Batting first, the Men in Blue were in trouble at 75/3 in the 12th over. Hardik Pandya scored 63 runs off 33 balls, and Virat Kohli scored 50 runs off 40 balls, and they managed to score 168 for the loss of six wickets at the end of 20 overs.

England chased down the target in just 16 overs without losing any wickets. Indian bowlers failed to stop England’s aggressive opening pair of Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, who hammered the bowling attack all around the park, and India were unable to make a comeback in this match.

They Think That Even If They Lose The World Cup, Nothing Is Lost – Atul Wassan

Former India bowler Atul Wassan has made some shocking remarks regarding the Indian squad, criticizing their star players. He stated that the players have been rewarded far more for their achievements in bilateral series, and so it is not the end of the world if they do not perform.

“The threshold for satisfaction has gotten really low. Despite losing, these players will be superstars. They’ve been rewarded a lot more for a lot less, facile wins. On IPL wins, they have become superstars. If a player performs well in a bilateral series, he is given four contracts. They think that even if they lose the World Cup, nothing is lost. Life goes on,” Wassan said on ABP News.

“All this fame that surrounds an Indian cricketer should be categorised. You need to understand that a lot of this is due to fans and the media. That we praise them so much for trivial achievements in bilateral series, players feel they have achieved everything.

“We haven’t won one ICC tournament in 9 years. If you pick the top 15 cricket stars in the world, 10 will be Indians – be it in terms of endorsements, name or fame – but without anything. The trophy cabinet is empty at the end of the day,” Wassan added.

Team India will now travel to New Zealand for a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs. Senior players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul have been rested from the T20I and ODI squads. Shikhar Dhawan will captain the ODI team, and Hardik Pandya has been selected captain of the T20I team, with Rishabh Pant serving as deputy.
